Founded in 1953 as an octet of the University’s Glee Club, the Virginia Gentlemen are the University of Virginia’s oldest a cappella vocal ensemble.
Originally drawing members from the University Glee Club, the Gentlemen declared their independence and became their own student-run entity in 1987. Since then the Virginia Gentlemen have served as the premier musical ambassadors of the University and have performed at distinguished venues and events around the United States and abroad on their annual international tour.
We have been amazingly fortunate to perform for President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama, President George and First Lady Laura Bush, the University of Virginia’s Capital Campaigns in Charlotte and Washington DC, the Sydney Opera House, the Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, Phillips Arena for the Atlanta Hawks, John Paul Jones Arena for the UVA Basketball Team, Quincy Market in Boston, Monticello, Sweet Briar College, The Blue Ridge School, Westminster Academy, and the Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity Cruise Liners.
Our recent travels include Charleston, Boston, Washington DC, Atlanta, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Panama, Dubai, Greece, Italy and Egypt. Additionally, the VGs perform on or around grounds over 100 times a year.
The group strives to distinguish itself by offering the widest repertoire of music in the area, ranging from 1940s Sinatra hits, to 1960s Beatles singles, to the power ballads of the eighties and also chart topping songs pulled daily from our favorite contemporary radio stations. All of our music has been arranged for multiple voice harmony by current or former Virginia Gentlemen.
Thank you very for your visit and we look forward to performing for you in the future! Please feel free to contact us with any questions or requests.
